Description

Many people living in rural areas during the Great Depression had better access to a variety of foods because they grew their own fruits and vegetables and canned them so that they would have them during the winter months. Women often learned this skill of growing and preserving food. Meats were also canned shortly after the animal was processed in order to keep the meat from spoiling.
