Abstract:
  • This series consists of records pertaining to the Iowa SHARES program. In November 1979, Gov. Ray announced the formation of Iowa SHARES (Iowa Sends Help to Aid Refugees and End Starvation), a program specifically intended to aid refugees starving in Indochina. By Thanksgiving a fundraising drive began which by Christmas that year had raised more than $540,000 for relief activities. Money was used to purchase food, medicine and other relief goods in Cambodia. The Iowa SHARES program also organized and sent a Medical Relief Team to Cambodia. Records in the series include fund-raising and fiscal records, correspondence, information of the distribution of the funds, and information on the recruitment of the members of the Cambodian Relief Medical Team. Both a box list and folder list is available.
