  • Tag # 173 is thicker and has raised letters: C. O. & G. and the raised number 173. three small notches are cut in bottom of the tag. 1.5 inch Diameter. Tags were used to identify the miner as the loads were brought up and to identify the miner as on the job or to receive their paycheck or credit. BUXTON. 1895-1927 was a coal mining town in section 4, Bluff Creek Township. At one time, about 1910, it had somewhere near 6,000 inhabitants, 5,500 being Negroes. The town was never incorporated.
