    She was educated in New Orleans where her parents moved after the Civil War.
    Founder of Iowa Congress of Parents and Teachers.
    One of the incorporators of the Des Moines Women's Club, 1887.
    Wife of Isaac Lea Hillis, Mayor of Des Moines, 1894 and 1895.

    35" x 30 3/4" Black & gold frame with wear marks on gold paint, plaque with title on bottom. Green to red/ burgundy background, cracking in paint on right side of background. Subject's body facing left and head facing forward. Wearing grey/green jacket with white trim & collar, pink clasp/brooch. Grey/brown hair styled on top of head.
