Description:
  • Saddle blanket made of bison hide. Circa 1830. Blue, black and white large pony beads sewn with sinew. Lazy stitch style beadwork. Blue and white stripes outer border. Black and white rectangular motifs set into border, two motifs on long edges, one motif on short edges. Some areas of beading loss. Approximately 24.75" wide, 50" long.

Exhibited at musee du quai Branly in Paris (April-July 2014), the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City (Sept 2014-Jan 2015), and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (March-May 2015).
