  • Read/Write Chassis. One of four used as a read-write function for 10 bits of memory. Originally placed on the back of the central frame. 9.5 x 18.75" Many transisters and vacuum tubes on a u-shaped frame held on the sides by a rust-colored.

    This is part of a collection of pieces and parts of the CYCLONE computer built by Iowa State University, a general purpose computing machine named ILLIAC which was developed for military use by the University of Illinois. Illinois let other colleges know that they would furnish drawings to other institutions to build for their own use, and ISU did so beginning in 1956. These are but a few of a machine originally 12 feet long (six bays), 2 feet thick and 9 feet tall. See file for more detailed information.
