  • Medal, Victory Medal, round medallion with raised image of Liberty and World War II on front, reverse has raised text around edge: United States of America, 1941-1945, lettering at center: Freedom from Fear and Want, Freedom of Speech and Religion. Attached to red ribbon with rainbow stripes along sides. 2.875 x 1.375 inches.
    World War 1939-1945
    Neuendorf joined the United States Marine Corps January 21, 1942 at the age of 22. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force. He took part in battles on Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Saipan, and Peleliu. He died from wounds received in combat on October 13, 1944 on Peleliu Island. Initially buried in Section Two, Grave 180 of USAF Cemetery Peleliu #1. Reinterred at Highland Memory Garden Cemetery, Des Moines in 1948.
