    Richard Dale Smith was born April 15, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from East High School. Smith was a heavy truck driver in the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division. He enlisted as a Private in June 1950 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in June 1954. Awarded Korean Service Medal with three stars, Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Navy Occupation Medal. Wounded in action in Korea March 1951 and September 1951.
