Summary note:
  • The collection has been assembled in a scrapbook format and includes copies of the group's articles of incorporation and by-laws; informational literature and publications disseminated by Iowans Care and other activist groups such as the Forgotten Americans Committee and Voices in Vital America; proclamations for "National Concern for Prisoners of War Week"; news clippings about POW and MIA advocacy activities and Iowa's imprisoned and missing soldiers; ephemera; decals and bumper stickers; and several photographs. The collection also includes two vinyl recordings ( a 1973 45 rpm recording of "Wake up America! and How do you Tell a Small Boy" by Lance Lindsay released by VIVA, Voices in Vital America and a 1972 recording (33 1/3 rpm) of public service announcements for the National League of American Prisoners and Missing in Action in Southeast Asia and the American National Red Cross) as well as a fairly complete run of the Voices in Vital America periodical The Voice of POWs and MIAs (1972-1975).

Biographical/Historical note:
  • Iowans Care for Prisoners of War and Missing in Action originated as the Iowa affiliate of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia. The founding officers were family members of Iowa soldiers who were either prisoners of war or had been declared missing in action in the Vietnamese Conflict. The group's goal was "securing humane treatment for Americans who are prisoners of war or held captive by a foreign power."
