  • The collection contains a pocket diary with sporadic entries covering the time period from October 8, 1943 to December 8, 1945; various military documents and ephemera; three photograph albums of candid photos from Riccio's service overseas; souvenir books on the 184th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion and the history of Antwerp; and some military medals, pins, and patches.

Biographical/Historical note:
  • Frank F. Riccio of Des Moines, Iowa served in World War II as a gun crewman with Battery A of the 184th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. His unit defended London and Paris from German bombers and was also a critical defensive force at Omaha beach (Normandy landing), Antwerp, and the Battle of the Bulge. Private Riccio was discharged from service in December 1945 having earned 6 bronze stars and one silver star.
