Title:
  • Leland Earl Treptow scrapbook, 1942-1945.
Summary note:
  • The scrapbook includes photographs, letters, ephemera, memorabilia and several original poems written by Treptow commenting on the harsh conditions in the Iranian desert. A few additional family portraits and souvenir items from the Middle East were received with the scrapbook.
Source of Acquisition:
  • Donated by Treptow's niece Barbara De Freytas, 2006.
Biographical/Historical note:
  • Sgt. Treptow from Kingsley, Iowa served during World War II with the 3943rd Quartermaster Truck Company in Iran, a country which was part of a strategic corridor through which aid was supplied to Russia. Treptow received basic training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas and officer's training at Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi. His wife Alma maintained a scrapbook record of Treptow's World War II experiences.
