Summary note:
  • This collection consists of 22 letters written by Richard Zinke of Audubon, Iowa who served in the Vietnam War with Company D of the 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry, 198th Light Artillery Brigade. The recipients are his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Zinke of Audubon. The twenty letters dating from August 29 through December 5, 1968 were written while on assignments in the vicinity of Chu Lai and Da Nang. After this time Zinke was wounded and the final two letters--dated April 28 and June 29, 1969--are written from Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas where he recuperated and assumed a job as records clerk. In the letters Zinke comments on life and duties in base camp, field missions, and the Vietnamese people.
